The 6 Best DIY Trail Mixes | From Savory to Sweet.

Trail mix is the mother of all backpacking food and has been fueling nomadic lifestyles for centuries. Also known as GORP (Good Old Raisins and Peanuts), trail mix's benefits are huge - it’s nutritious, tasty, ingredients are easy to find, no cooking needed, and it preserves and travels well.

Let’s look at some classic (and not so classic) sweet and savory DIY trail mixes.

Some things to keep in mind:

    • Experiment. Feel free to substitute any of these ingredients.
    • Most of the following ingredients should be found in a grocery store. Be sure to keep in mind accessibility on the trail.
    • Try to avoid processed candies. Go for dark chocolate instead - it is high in antioxidants.
    • Don't be afraid to use the oven if you have access to one.
    • Start with less seasoning. You can always add more later.
